I recently purchased a used 5th Wheel that came with a hitch. It appears to be the Curt C16536 Slider. I do not need the slider nor do I want the weight. It appears that I can simply purchase legs C16904 and transfer the head unit. Would you agree?

Absolutely. The Curt # C16904 Replacement Base Legs are fully compatible with the Curt # C16536 Q20 5th wheel hitch center section/hitch head.
You don't mention the length of your truck bed, but be aware that the Curt Q Series isn't compatible with rotating pin boxes like the Reese Revolution/Sidewinder or Lippert Turning Point. I've linked to a product description video that explains the features of the Curt Q20 5th wheel hitch.
