Question:
I think your 20036 is what I need. But my backup light is in the tailgate. I dont want to string a wire to that point. Is there a place inside the car main body where I can connect? What colour wire am I searching for there?

In order to find the wire that feeds the reverse lamps, you will need to find the wiring harness that feeds them.
I do not have any information regarding wire color or even the exact location of the harness. Chances are, the wiring harness will run through one of the door pillars on either side of the liftgate, before it proceeds to the top of the liftgate opening and passes across to the liftgate. This would be the easiest place to access the harness. You will need to have a helper place the transmission in reverse, while you use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to probe each wire in the harness until you find the wire that shows voltage only when the vehicle is in reverse. Once located, you can tap the blue adapter wire into it.
Because the car manufacturers have been known to change wire colors in mid-stream, knowing the wire color is not typically very useful. It is best to test to confirm function, rather than depend on a particular wire color serving a particular purpose.
I wish I had some more specific advice for you, but hopefully you will be able to find the harness pretty easily.
