Question:
Im looking to put a hitch on my 2017 transit connect. I dont plan on towing, just installing a bike rack. Do I really need a 2inch class 3 or will a 1 1/4 class 2 do the trick. Thanks.

You can definitely use a hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver, like the Curt # C12123, for using a bike rack on your 2017 Ford Transit Connect. We just typically recommend going with a 2" receiver, like the Curt # C13167, just because the pricing tends to be somewhat similar and you can use a wider variety of accessories with a 2" receiver.
For example, you'll probably need to completely remove the bike rack to gain access to the rear hatch of your Transit Connect. If you install the 2" receiver then you can use a swing away adapter like the Yakima BackSwing # Y02483 to get your bike rack out of the way (even with the bikes loaded!) so you can load or unload your rear hatch freely. You wouldn't be able to use something like this with a 1-1/4" receiver.
If you don't already have a bike rack just let me know what you're looking for and what kind of bikes you need to transport and I can make a recommendation for you.
I've attached installation videos for both Curt trailer hitches for you to check out (although they are basically the same thing).
