Why Does the Battery Wire Need to be Run to the Battery Trailer Wiring Install 2012 VW Sportwagen

Since theres a 12V outlet in the trunk, why not use that for battery connection and ground?

The reason you want to run the battery wire up to the positive post of the battery is to protect the delicate wiring of your 2012 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen. This way if there is a short on your trailer it will not overdraw your vehicles wiring and potentially damage something. By pulling all of its voltage from the battery you would not have to worry about the vehicle wiring if you had a trailer short. Which if you do damage your vehicle wiring it could get very expensive to repair.
Also, this unit was only tested using the voltage from the battery as a power source. It would void the warranty if you did not install it the way it was intended to be used.
