Recommended Replacement Winch To Replace Fulton XLT1401 For 3500 Lb Boat

Question:

Need to update 2010 Malibu 21 vRide boat wench from Fulton XLT1401. Boat weight is 3500 lbs. Holds 11 persons, fuel 46 gallons Trailer weighs 1200 lbs. Carrying capacity 4800 lbs. Gross Wt. 6000 Boatmate Trailer Which wench do you recommend?

Generally when picking out a winch for a boat trailer the ratio is 2 to 1 meaning you would need a winch with half the capacity as the weight of the boat. Since the winch is only pulling the boat, you don't really need to consider the trailer weight. Your existing Fulton Winch has a capacity of 1,400 lbs.

I recommend to upgrade to the Fulton XLT 2-Speed Trailer Winch with Heavy Duty 20' Strap part # F142418 which will work really well with the 3500 lb boat even when full of fuel. The XLT is a 2 speed winch with 2,600 lb capacity and an included 20' x 2" strap.
