Why Does Replacement Key for Sears 20-SV Cargo Box Not Work Initially

Question:
I have a Sears X-CARGO SPORT 20 CAR TOP CARRIER that is about13 years old. I lost the key and ordered a new one from another company. However that did not fit. I read that the locks were changed over the years. How can I find a key and or lock so I can open my carrier? The photo I included is just like mine but a current sales ad.

With replacement keys for the Sears cargo boxes the first time you use the key you will need to tap the key all the way into the lock core with a mallet/hammer just that first time and you'll get the keys to work like they need to. This is actually a pretty common issue.
