Are There Connections Under Hood of 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 Needed to Connect Brake Controller
Updated 05/11/2020 | Published 05/07/2020 >
Question:
I have a 2019 Chevy Trail Boss Custom with the Z71 Trailer package. I have installed the trailer brake controller module that came with the truck and plugged it in, wired it to a connector, and connected it to my controller Reese 8508211 and cannot get it to power up. Tried it another Curt controller in case the first one was faulty. No dice. The manual states that there may be wires that need connected to the fuse box?? I cannot find any wires. Would like to know what your thoughts are or any advice. From the manual: The fuse for the electric trailer brake circuit is in the engine compartment fuse block, but the wires may not be connected.

Expert Reply:
GM doesn't always have the brake controller wiring active on their trucks which is why there are some connections under the hood that need to be made like you mentioned. This was more common on the older trucks than your 2019 Silverado but it's not unheard of to need to make the connections. If you check out the help article I linked to this page you'll see all of the connections that need to be made.
