Weight Capacity of Yakima Y02479 EVO 2 Bike Platform Style Rack
Updated 05/09/2020 | Published 05/07/2020 >
Question:
Hi! My question is why the new rack, 2479, holds less weight than the 2443? My bikes have fat tires so I cant use the 2443 but they come in at almost exactly 100lbs total. So, will the new rack really support the maximum 100lbs? Also, will it really take a 48inch wheelbase? The 2443 says it supports a 47 3/4inch wheelbase but my bike 47 3/4 did not fit. It was way outside the rear holding cups I had to return the rack. Might have had something to do with the fat tires not fitting into the cups but it was such a big difference that it makes me concerned about buying the new model.

Although Yakima couldn't provide an explanation as to why the HoldUp Evo # Y02479 has a 10 lb per bike higher weight capacity than the original # Y02443 HoldUp, rest assured that the Evo's 100 lb capacity will handle your two bikes perfectly as long as their combined weight doesn't exceed 100 lbs. Yakima confirmed the 48 inch wheelbase. If the center axle to center axle spacing of your bike is 48 inches or less, the rack will be compatible with your bike.
