According to the owner's manual, if a trailer ball is installed in the OEM bumper of your 2008 Tundra, the capacity maxes out at 5000 lbs. This assumes that the bumper, the brackets attaching it to the frame members and the frame members themselves are in good condition.

Generally speaking, a bumper mounted trailer ball is best used for shorter distances because the ball typically sits higher than the 17 inch average trailer coupler height. If the trailer is towed more than a couple of inches above or below level, the trailer will be more susceptible to sway.

If the bumper height where he ball installs has a 2 inch +/- height difference versus the trailer coupler when the trailer is jacked up so that the frame is level, and you'll be traveling at highway speeds for anything other than local use, I'd recommend installing a frame mounted receiver hitch like #13198 which provides a capacity of to 6000 lbs. You'll also need a ball mount like # C45010 and # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch ball or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball. You'll also need a pin and clip # PC3. For a trailer wiring harness, use # HM43397.
