The safest and easiest way to carry 5 bikes with your 2010 Chevrolet Traverse would be to add a trailer hitch and use a hitch mounted bike rack for 5 bikes. If you do not want to add a trailer hitch, then you will need to use a combination of a trunk mounted bike rack and roof mounted bike racks or store some bikes in the rear cargo area of your vehicle.
Trunk mounted bike racks can only support up to 3 bikes. Our most popular trunk mounted bike rack is the Thule OutWay 3 Bike Rack, # TH56BV. This bike rack will strap to the top and bottom edges of your rear hatch. I have attached a link to all of the trunk mounted bike racks that will fit your vehicle as well as a video review of this bike rack.
The other two bikes will have to be mounted on the roof with roof mounted bike racks like the Swagman Rooftop Bike Rack, # S64720. Roof mounted bike racks will require you to have a roof rack on your vehicle with crossbars that run side to side. If you do not have crossbars, then I recommend picking up the Rhino-Rack Roof Rack Kit Parts # DS1375B and # DK297.
I have also attached links to all of the roof mounted bike racks that we carry for you to check out.
If you were interested in adding a trailer hitch and using a hitch mounted bike rack, then you could take a look at the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch, # 75528. I have attached a link to the installation instructions as well as an installation video for you to check out.
