Are Spacers Required for Curt Hitch On a 2008 - 2016 Volvo XC70

Updated 04/06/2020 | Published 04/04/2020

Question:

The installation went well and got everything put back together. At the end I reread the instructions and it mentioned the spacer plates were to offset a raised metal area around the bolt holes. found on S60 model. My installation was using the spacers. I realize now they werent necessary but Its all together now and looks good. The only part I couldnt install was the internal bolt in the spare tire compartment that goes to into the detachable tow bar fitting. It was too short. Is there any issues with using spacers when they arent required? Do I need to take everything off and reinstall?

In regards to the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13266, which is a fit for a 2008 - 2016 Volvo XC70 the spacers which go between the vehicle body and trailer hitch are only required on models with a raised edge around the space where the hitch installs. I cannot recommend you operate outside of the installation instructions but I don't see a huge issues with using the spacers even if the edge isn't present.

If you will be towing then you'll also need a trailer wiring harness, the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118774 which is a plug-n-play fit and the etrailer Ball Mount Kit part # 989900 which comes with everything else you need.
