Trunk Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2005 Porsche Cayenne and 3 Mountain Bikes

Updated 07/09/2012 | Published 07/06/2012

Question:

Hi, Im looking for a rack for the above vehicle for 1 mens, 1 ladies and 1 child mountain bike. Id like trunk mounted without a hitch if at all possible. The Thule products look like they are a good fit but are any of them more secure for long distance journeys?

There are several 3 bike trunk mount racks that Thule lists as a fit for the 2005 Porsche Cayenne. I have included a link to them for you. If you are looking for the safest and most secure rack with the best features, go with the OutWay, # TH56BV.

This rack features 2 retractable cables, rather than straps, to secure the rack to the back of the vehicle. This creates not only a secure attachment to the vehicle but also makes the rack quick and easy to install and remove. The OutWay would be the best choice for long or short trips because the cables will stay in place once installed.

The cables can be locked into place on one side to deter theft of the rack. There is an integrated cable lock for the last bike to deter theft of all bikes. The rack also includes road dampening technology and it is very light weight. It is also made in the USA and has a limited lifetime warranty.

For the women's, and possibly the child's bike, I recommend using the bike adapter bar, # TH982XT, for greater ground clearance and to be able to carry the bikes more level. I have included a link to a video showing how the adapter works.

Make sure the vehicle and bike rack are clean and free of debris before mounting the rack to avoid scratches.
