T-One harnesses, like the Tekonsha # 118539 for your 2014 Jeep Compass, shouldn't have any functional effect on your vehicle's tail lights. With the included Powered ModuLite, the harness draws power directly from the battery instead of your Jeep's electrical system. The Modulite converter is also designed to protect your factory wiring from any potential backfeed coming from the trailer side, in the event there's a short on the trailer wiring.
With all that in mind, it sounds like two wires are making contact when they really aren't supposed to. The less likely reason would suggest something tripped the Modulite during installation. To rule this out, disconnect the negative battery terminal for about 5 minutes to reset the Modulite.
If the issue isn't resolved, I recommend checking the connections behind the tail lights. Check for any bent or broken pins inside the T-Connectors as well as your factory tail light connectors.
On the driver's side, make sure that the red 12V wire coming out of the black box is properly connected to the 20 ft long black wire and that nowhere along way up to the battery is making contact with any other wires around it, making sure to avoid any areas that could pinch, damage or melt the wire as well.
It is very important that the power wire be routed directly to the battery and not any other power source on the vehicle to avoid any potential contact with other circuits on the vehicle. I've attached a step by step installation video link for you at the bottom of the page.
If after all this, your Jeep's left brake light is still powering up, please let me know so we can continue to troubleshoot.
