On some brake controllers that use the indicator light, a green light indicates that the trailer is connected and no brakes are being applied. When stepping on the brake pedal or using the manual override, the light will change to orange and then to red as more power is sent back up to the pre-set mark.
If you need more power you will need to adjust the gain/power output. You want to get it to a point just under trailer brake lock up. You will also need to check for a sync setting that may need to be adjusted. This setting changes how long it takes to send the power back to the trailer brakes and is up to the user to determine the best setting.
