Is There Benefit to Going from Non-Ducted AC Unit in RV to Ducted

Published 02/04/2020

Question:

I have a class A motorhome with two acs installed. The rear unit is setup to work with the duct system in the motorhome, while the front ac is setup as a non ducted unit, however there is duct inlets there. If I were to add the same metal plate to the bottom of the unit like the one in the rear unit, would this work better for cooling the motorhome and is there any draw backs to doing this? Both units are Coleman brands front unit is Model No. 8333-8766 and the rear unit is Model No. 8333-8764

If there is ducting present on the roof of your motorhome for the second non-ducted AC unit to use you could pretty easily tie into it and have a setup that will distribute the cooler air wherever the ducting routes. You'd have to determine where the ducts go and come up with a way to integrate into them. It's possible the ducts would go into rooms of the entire motorhome or just the room you are in but we aren't able to determine that. A non-ducted AC unit is going to have cool air come from the ceiling of the RV which typically isn't as ideal as vents spread out through the room so if you can go the ducted route that would be a great idea.

I know you have Coleman units but the Atwood Air Command part # AT15027-22 is a ducted unit and would work well in the configuration you mentioned.
