The Gen-Y website shows this adapter as 3500 lb pin weight. It this one different from what they have on their site?

I reached out to the manufacturer, Gen-Y, and verified that the pin weight capacity of the Gen-Y Hitch 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter Pin Box # GY58GR is 3,500 lbs.

This adapter has a 21,000 lb capacity and is designed to replace Lippert 1621 and 1621 HD 5th-wheel pin boxes.

I’m looking at a cougar 29rdb, it has a pin weight of 1520lbs. Would this style adapter work with this fifth wheel? Or is it too lite to be effective?

That's a really good question. The Gen-Y # 325-GH-8045 is definitely geared towards heavier trailers. I honestly think the 1,520 pound pin weight on your Cougar might be a bit light and likely isn't enough to really compress the torsion mechanisms so that you get the type of of benefit the pin box is meant to offer. I think a better option is one that utilizes an internal air bag like the Reese Goose Box # RP85FR.
