Solution for Small Clearance Between Trailer Axle and Frame/Floor
Updated 01/13/2020 | Published 01/12/2020 >
Question:
Hello, I have a 3000lb trailer with a single axle 3500lb. I was replacing the floor and noticed The floor is about 1-2” away from the floor. Also the tongue is 12” from the ground unloaded level trailer. This normal? I measured 25 1/2” center across the spring. Worn springs? Thanks

It's recommended to have at least around 3" of clearance between the axle and frame/floor on the trailer, and a decrease in this clearance is indeed typically the result of worn/stretched out leaf springs. Just looking at the pictures you attached it does appear that they are pretty old so a new set of springs should resolve this issue and lift the trailer back up a bit to stock height.
If you measured a distance of 25-1/2" from the center of one hole/eye to the center of the other on your existing springs (with the load taken off) then the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e54SR will work great as a replacement. These measure 25-1/8" long eye to eye. Your current springs will have stretched out over time which is why the correct replacement is a bit shorter.
If this isn't how you measured your trailer's current leaf springs just let me know and I will be happy to make an alternate recommendation.
