Spacer Block Positioning when Installing Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch 24692 on a 2006 Ford Focus Sedan

Updated 04/29/2012 | Published 04/27/2012

Question:

On a 2006 ford focus installation, sedan, on the passenger side. Is there supposed to be a spacer between the hitch and the tie down....The diagram showed the two hole spacer goes on the left side on my car and the right side on the hatchback. Thats how I did it. That left me with no spacer for the hitch and tie down on the left. The instructions said always a spacer between hitch and frame. I counted and had the right number of parts and none left over. Am I just over reading the instructions? I need a little reassurance before I start towing.

I think the key to installing the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24692 is that little stipulation in the instructions that states the 2-hole block position varies by model. The way that I look at the instructions, there is one 2-hole spacer that can either go on the driver side (sedan) or passenger side (hatchback).

It sounds like you have it positioned correctly. You will need to make sure that the driver side of the hitch is inboard of the tie down hook and that the passenger side is outboard of the tie down hook as explained in the first step in the instructions, linked for reference.

The spacer block goes between the tie down hook and the hitch. The diagram is a little confusing because it makes it look like there are more 2 hole spacer blocks then there actually are.
