Hello, Can the Batwing Compact fit on a 2017 Subaru Forester with OEM roof rails? Once installed will I be able to open my trunk while the batwing compact is deployed? Thank you!

In order to mount the Rhino-Rack Batwing Compact Awning # RR33400 (or any similar awning system) to the roof of your 2017 Subaru Forester, you will first need to replace the factory bars that came equipped with the vehicle. This is simply because the awning needs to attach to crossbars that extend past the mounting feet on the roof, and since the factory bars sit flush with the side rails on your Forester, it won't be directly compatible.

To replace the factory bars I recommend the Malone AirFlow2 # MPG216, which will attach right to the side rails to provide you with longer bars for the awning.

With the awning attached and out for use you will be able to open the hatch of your Forester. I have spoken with Rhino-Rack about this in the past and they said rear cargo access is not an issue.
