Trailer Tire Recommendation for Going from 205/75-15 to 225/75R15
Updated 09/11/2019 | Published 09/10/2019 >
Question:
I have an enclosed 8.5 x 24 trailer that has 205/75R15 tires on it. I carry a car in the trailer regularly and the D range tires dont seem to last very long. Are there E range tires in 205? If I change to 225 tires to get the E range, what do I need to look for in order to make sure they will work?

Since we don't carry a Load Range E in the tire size of 205/75-15 that you referenced and you are considering the larger tire size of 225/75-15 that would be the route I would recommend since you'll get higher capacities from this size like it sounds like you need. The things you'll need to consider is the additional diameter of the bigger size and the slight increase in width. The diameter increase is from 27.1 inches to 28.4 inches and the width is a difference of 20 mm. You'll want to check to make sure that with the increase in diameter will allow you to have at least 4 inches of fender clearance. So as long as you have 4.65 inches of clearance currently you'll be fine.
The Karrier part # AM10303 is a Load Range E tire in the size ST225/75R15 which has a weight capacity of 2,830 lb at 80 psi and a speed rating of 81 mph. This tire is backed by a limited 5-year warranty and a 1-year worry-free guarantee.
With all of that said typically trailer tires don't wear out unless there's an alignment issue or they are being overloaded. Could you get back to me with the type of wear you are experiencing?
