The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TGMRSB4 for your 1997 Chevy Suburban can affect your unloaded ride quality, but mostly on roads that are not particularly smooth. When traversing that type of road, your Chevy's ride may be a bit more stiff due to the rigidity of the rubber springs on the axle.
The trade-off, of course, is that the Timbrens # TGMRSB4 are absolutely going to be a boon to the back end of your '97 Suburban, saving it from the wear and tear you mentioned because they will absorb the impact when you do have a load in the back or are towing a trailer.
I have added a link below to a video review for you to check out as well of the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TGMRSB4.
