Should Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension have the Shackles Straps Angled or Totally Vertical

Question:

I am in the process of replacing the double-eye leaf springs on my single axle boat trailer. The axle is rated for 2000 lbs. The original leaf springs were 28 inches eye center to eye center. A local supplier did not have 28 inch springs and recommended to use 27 inch springs in the same weight class. After installing them I noticed the shackle straps are hanging nearly vertical to springs rather than the bottoms pointing slightly towards the rear of the trailer. Is this set -up proper or do you recommend going with 28 inch springs?

If the shackles aren't angled slightly you run the risk of the equalizers angling and having the shackles on the wrong side of the springs. 28 inch leaf springs are hard to come by so your best solution will be to either go with replacement equalizers that are a bit longer than what you have or move the hangers in a bit closer.

If you can get me the distance between the bolt hole centers of your current equalizers I can come up with your best option. In meantime I attached a link to all of the equalizers we offer as well.
