Atwood Air Command Air Conditioner Fan Constantly Running Even in Auto Mode
Updated 01/07/2026 | Published 05/29/2019 >
Question:
I have an Atwood air command unit on an RV I purchased a year ago and no matter if the fan setting is on auto the fan will always run. The compressor will kick off and on once the temperature is reached but the fan never will. The fan will automatically adjust speeds from high/medium/low but never fully turn off. I will attach pictures of the thermostat. Thank you very much!

In cooling mode, the fan does indeed run constantly by design. Since you use the "auto" fan speed, the fan will run at slow speed when the compressor is off, and then cycle up to a higher speed as needed when the compressor starts.
In heat mode the fan does not run constantly. When the compressor shuts off, the fan shut off shortly thereafter as the heat in the cols has dissipated. Then it will run the fan every few minutes on slow to check the air temperature to maintain your temp setting. When the temp is determined to be too cold the compressor with kick on and heat the coils then the fan will kick on so it doesn't circulate cold air but only the warm air.

I have the same issue. I've diagnosed the issue a little myself. If you hold the "Sleep" button for 5+ seconds, the actual temp will flash on the thermostat. Oddly when my AC doesn't work, the thermostat says the actual temp is often 60-65* even though the inside temp is 70* or higher. I check this with a laser thermometer. This only happens on "cool" for me. If the mode is set to "Heat" the actual temp matches my laser thermometer. Now where it gets really strange but sort of explains the issue. If I put the thermostat mode on on "heat" and point a hair dryer at it, the actual temp goes up like expected so it is reading correct but when the mode is set to "cool" I cannot get the actual temp to change like it did on heat. With the mode set to "cool" I then walk over to the AC unit and blow hot air into the intake duct and BAM the temp goes right up and the AC turns on. I think the issue is that the sensor for the indoor temp is inside the intake duct for the AC. This is a bad design or the wiring is wrong. I am less than 1 week from my Sunseeker 1 year warranty being up so I plan to call the deal tomorrow and get this figured out.

What's the solution if in heat mode and fan in auto mode the indoor evaporator fan is constantly running blowing cold air in ?

I have a Atwood Air Command, on a Class C 2019, the air stops blowing, running, etc during the night, it runs like a champ all day, however some time around 09:00pm it stops running I can change temps, move to Auto, power off and on, it NEVER comes back on, its like it has a timer and no matter what I do it will never come back on during the night, I've bought little fans with us knowing its going to shut off at nights, we are planning a trip to the Beach in July, and fearful that we will be hot during the nights...any advise would be greatly appreciated , I thought it may be freezing, but the fans do not even work
