Roof Rack Canoe Carrier Recommendation for 2019 Ford Escape with Factory Roof Rack
Updated 05/20/2019 | Published 05/18/2019 >
Question:
I want to use this carrier to load and carry my canoe upside down on the roof of my 2019 ford escape which has the factory rack and cross bars installed. I would remove the parts that swivel and form to the body of the canoe if it was mounted right side up. To carry a canoe in this manner seems unsafe. I would then use the remaining mounts as end stops book ends to sandwich the canoe between them to keep it from sliding off the rack sideways on the opposite side of the roof as I loaded it onto the roof and then to strap to. Does this sound feasible to you? Are the thumb screw bolts short enough when tightened down to not scratch the roof or can I feed them up from the bottom and thumb screw from the top side? If not, do you sell an end stop or side stop item I can attach to my factory rack? The problem I am having is that my Old Town Guide 147 is wide across the gunwale and the 2019 escape roof is narrow and I have always been told it is unsafe to transport a canoe right side up. Thanks for any help you can give me.

We actually have a canoe carrier confirmed to fit your 2019 Ford Escape that's designed to carry the canoe upside down and grab the gunwales like you mentioned. For that you'd want the Thule Portage part # TH819 which would work really well for you. It's also easy to install.
I attached a review video for this carrier for more info as well.
