how do i get my remote to work with my awm970 dvd player

I have linked the remote control section of the owner's manual for the Jensen AWM970 stereo and separately I have sent you a link to the entire owner's manual for your reference.
First make sure the remote control has a fresh battery to power it. You can use the replacement battery type CR2025. If the remote has a good battery it should not require any special process to operate the AWM970.
