When Installing Yakima FullBack On 2013 Honda Accord Sport Why is Anchor Mode Required
Published 06/12/2019 >
Question:
In response to your answer, I did indeed suspect that it might be because of the curve on the trunk lid. However, when I used the straps in the anchor mode, I observed that the hooks ("inverted" for the anchor mode) rested on the inner trunk padding (which is not very tough) on one side of the gap and the weatherstrip on the other side. I am afraid these will get damaged, and/or they will give in to the pressure and the rack's straps will get loose while driving. Is this the case with all sedans that are required to use the anchor mode, and should I thus not be worried about it?

I checked with Yakima and for the sedan versions of the 2013 Honda Accord they do require that the upper hooks get put into anchor mode. This isn't the case for the coupes but since you have a sedan and we have to recommend sticking with what Yakima determined as the safest fit we also recommend anchor mode. Most likely the issue with the hooks is that the trunk lid of your vehicle has a curve that the hooks would put extra pressure on.
