Parts To Tow A Trailer With A 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan

Question:

Hi i have a 2016 vw tiguan 4motion i want to install curt c13133 trailer hitch also need ball hitch i will be towing a trailer for personal use i want to know how to connect the wiring for lighting as well my car already comes from factory with some sort of connection what will i need to make everything work for my tiguan?

The Curt Class III Hitch part # C13133 is a good choice for the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan because the installation takes about 10 minutes less then the other options for your Volkswagen. It also provides a 1/2 inch more ground clearance once installed than the other options. If you ever decide to use a bike rack or cargo carrier it is less likely to drag the ground in low ground clearance situations.

The only trailer wiring available for the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan is Tekonsha Wiring Harness part # 118675. Tekonsha is a reliable brand with a lot of great reviews from our customers. The Tekonsha wiring harness is a t-connector, one side plugs behind the driver's side tail light and one side behind the passenger side tail light. It is a simple installation that does not require splicing into your Tiguan's wiring but it does require a wire to be ran to the Tiguan's battery. You want to be within 2 inches of level with the trailer to tow safely. From the Curt hitch to the ground on the Tiguan is about 16 inches. Measure from the bottom of the trailer coupler to the ground. The difference between those two measurements is the amount of rise or drop you need.
