It sounds like you are using a wiring harness that ties in behind the tail lights, the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56230. If that is the case and you are wanting to know how to run the 4-way trailer connector outside of the vehicle, then most customers will simply bring the trailer connector out of the trunk and then shut the trunk to secure it. This will then keep the trailer connector protected while not in use. However, if you want to permanently mount the trailer connector outside the vehicle then you will need to find an access hole which is usually located under the spare tire.
Unfortunately, the manufacturer recommends to just keep the trailer connector in the trunk so they do not provide instructions on how to permanently mount it outside the vehicle. However, if you are able to do so then you can use the 4-Flat Mounting Bracket part # 18144. Then if you want a no-drill application, you can add either a short bracket # 18140 or a long bracket # 18136.
