Question:
I think I found a related question, but wanted confirmation that I could do the same. I would need the Curt Spare tire holder, but need a reducer to mount it to the 1 1/4inch Curt hitch that mounts to my vehicle- correct? What is the weight of the Curt spare tire holder as I need to factor in that weight- in addition to the weight of my spare tire, to ensure that I dont exceed the 100 pound tongue limitation, right? Thanks!

Expert Reply:
The Curt hitch mounted spare carrier part # C31006 that you referenced weighs 18 lbs. Since this is a hitch mounted accessory Curt requires a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 to brace the carrier while travelling down the road with their hitches. You should note that when you use a hitch adapter you cut the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. So the Curt hitch that fits your 2008 Audi TT has a 100 lb tongue weight capacity normally and with an adapter would have a 50 lb capacity.
