Question:
I am looking at an 05 Silverado Ext cab Z71. It is a 4wd 4.8L but they say it has a 3.42 gear ratio. I have not been able to find any 4wd with that ratio and engine size. Can you tell me how much the towing capacity is?

Expert Reply:
Yes, the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 that you are looking at has a 6,700 lb towing capacity so long as it has an automatic transmission but if it has a manual transmission then it will only have a 4,700 lb towing capacity. If you look at page 4-76 in the owner's manual for a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado you will see the figures that I referenced.
