We have roof racks that do fit the factory raised rails on your 1998 GMC Jimmy like the Thule Evo Raised Rail Kit # TH712200 and # TH710401. The Thule installs very easily and gives you sturdy, square crossbars which will work well for basically all roof rack mounted accessories.
