How To Fix 205/75-14 Tires Rubbing On a Boat Trailer

Question:

I am trying to find out what is wrong with my boat trailer as the tires seem to rub fenders and everything seems to be running down the road fine other then the low clearance, can you help me I do have a picture if that will help

The most likely scenario you are experiencing is that the previous owner of the trailer installed a new tire size that is larger than the size that was originally equipped and the fenders are designed to be used with. Therefore, you are experiencing contact between the tire and fender. The recommended clearance between the top of the tire and bottom of the fender is around 4" as this will allow for the proper amount of suspension travel.

In order to confirm that you have the incorrect size you will need to look for a load sticker near the tongue of the trailer as that would then indicate what size tires should be on the trailer. The other option is to call the trailer manufacturer with your VIN as they should be able to tell you what size tires the trailer came with. If this cannot be done then judging by the photo that you submitted, it appears that you have 205/75-14 tires on your trailer now. The next size down we have for you is a 175/80-13 which will be 2.1" smaller in overall diameter. For this, I recommend the Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" Aluminum Wheel part # AM32001HWTB which has a load range D rating suitable for use up to 1,610 lbs per tire.

The other possible cause as to why the fenders and tires are coming into contact is worn out leaf spring or being overloaded.
