How to Carry Both a Bike Rack and Cargo Carrier on a 2017 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500

Updated 02/18/2019 | Published 02/15/2019

Question:

Good afternoon. I have a folding bike and am trying to decide which is the best way to transport it with my MB Sprinter 3500 van. I had originally ordered a cargo carrier hitch before I purchased the bike. If I want to have both a cargo carrier and a bike rack is there a solution? Also if I just want to transport the bike, which would be the best and would I need a swing away hitch so I can open the cargo doors. Thank you for your help.

There is a solution that will allow you to carry both a bike rack and cargo cargo on the rear of your 2017 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 at the same time and for this you will need to use the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 Platform Bike Rack w/ Cargo Carrier part # HR1450Z-85 which is the only one of it's kind to my knowledge. The Sport Rider is one of my favorite bike racks because it is very well made and has add-ons you can purchase to make it compatible with practically any bike. It also has a lifetime warranty.

The add-on you will need for the Sport Rider SE2 to work with the small tires on your folding bike will be the Kids Bike Wheel Hoop Adapter part # HRSW-ADP-2. The Sport Rider SE2 combo will allow you to carry two bikes up to 50 lbs each as well as 100 lbs of cargo all at the same time. In order to open your rear cargo doors with the bike rack/cargo carrier attached you will need to remove the bike and fold the upright on the bike rack down.

This option will not allow you to use your cargo carrier on the rear of the van. However, you can use your cargo carrier on the front of the van with a front mount hitch, the EcoHitch Hidden Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 306-X7352. If you wanted you could use the bike rack on the front of the van and then the cargo carrier on the rear with the swing away adapter as well.

I have attached review videos for you.
