Potential Causes for Overload OL Error Code from Tekonsha Primus IQ Brake Controller TK90160
Updated 12/31/2018 | Published 12/29/2018 >
Question:
Hi my electric brakes are intermittently indicating the oL warning. It comes on right at the end of braking, right before I stop. I am currently travelling and cannot get to my brakes place for at least a week. Also it’s Xmas/new year so everywhere is closed. Will I be ok to continue travelling on this trip and then get this fixed when I return?

How long you can continue to pull your trailer with an overload error message (OL) on yourPrimus IQ # TK90160 is dependent on what is causing that error message.
I take it that the trailer brakes do continue to function, only you are getting that error message. You may be able to troubleshoot this issue without heading to a shop.
There are several potential causes for this OL error message. These include a short in one or more of your brake assemblies' magnets, the brake circuit wire rubbing on the trailer frame or even just a corroded trailer connector. Check the vehicle socket and the trailer plug for signs or corrosion or trapped foreign material. Either of these conditions could allow the brake circuit to "bridge" to another and that could cause the OL code.
