Published 12/21/2018 >
Question:
Can we open the Awning with with the trunk door left wide open on a 4Runner? I like to have access to certain power sources and camping gear from the back of my 4Runner while the Awning is providing cover.

I spoke with my contact at Rhino-Rack regarding the ability to open the trunk door on your 4Runner with the Batwing Awning # RR33200 installed.
My contact coincidentally has a 4Runner herself with the Batwing installed and said she is able to open the hatch and leave it open without a problem. She did say that the door won't open completely (about 90 percent of the way) as the awning will prevent it from opening all the way but this does not affect its function or risk damage in any way. You will be free to open the hatch (and leave it open) on your 4Runner to access power sources and other items while continuing to benefit from the shade that the awning provides.
I have attached a short video demosntration that you can also check out.
