How high up are the 1/2inch dia holes? I.E. what is the max diameter of roller can you fit inside?

The center of the holes on the CE Smith Side Angle Mounting Brackets # CE10211G that you referenced are 2-1/4 inches above the mounting surface. Since the diameter of the roller gets split on either side of it a 4 inch diameter roller would be about as big as I'd recommend.
