From what I could find online it looks like you can flat tow your 2002 Suzuki Vitara. The only time you will need to modify something is if it is a RWD automatic. I wasn't able to access an online version of the owner's manual for a 2002 Vitara though and since that is the final authority you will want to check that out first before purchasing your vehicle.

If the owner's manual confirms this then you need base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle tow bar wiring, a supplemental braking system, and possibly a high-low adapter to flat tow this vehicle.

For your application I recommend going with the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit # 1012-1 which pairs nicely with the Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520 and Safety Cables # RM-643 for a secure system that can handle up to 6,000 lbs.

Then for lights and a braking system I recommend the magnetic towing lights # TL21RK and the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR. Both of these are very easy to set up and can easily be transferred to different vehicles if need be.

Most flat towing setups require a high-low adapter for the tow bar to remain level while towing. I have linked our selection of adapters for you to check out as well as an article that will help you determine which is the best one for your application.

I have attached some review videos and installation instructions for you to reference but you do need to look at the owner's manual for any other specific instructions for towing as well.
