High Voltage for Running Lights Circuit on Vehicle Side Connector

Question:
I know that the running trailer lights voltage should be around 12 but what is the range? I just bought a new harness and both the old harness and the new one or giving me a about 13.5 to 13.8 coming out of the vehicle to the trailer lights. I bought the new one that is for my car from etrailer. It is an Acura MDX 2015. Is 13.8 to high? I have been having a problem where my lights with short

You are correct that normally you will see around 12 volts of power at the vehicle connector for the running lights circuit but the fact that you are testing 13.5 to 13.8 volts is not out of the ordinary and it does not indicate any kind of issue. This is not too high. As long as your trailer lights are working as they should when the trailer is connected you are good to go!
