Question:
This installation is challenging, so I will find a mechanic to do the install. However, you say All non-trailer loads - bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth - should be supported with stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt. How do I ensure stabilizing straps #18050 are used by the mechanic in a way which does not void the warranty? Also, once installed, what is the clearance between the road and bottom of receiver? Should I be concerned about this distance when using a standard Thule bike rack?

I attached a video that shows how the stabilizer strap part # 18050 gets used typically to when carrying a bike rack. There isn't a hard and fast rule on how much support the strap has to provide but you really just need to come up with the best way for your application and as long as it's "in use" you are fine.
