Troubleshooting Trailer Running Lights Blowing Fuse on 1994 Dodge Ram

Question:

My 1994 Dodge 3500 30 amp trailer fuse keeps blowing. When the cable is plugged into the plug without the trailer being hitched the lights work how ever every time we hook the trailer up to the hitch and I turn on my headlights the 30 amp fuse blows. We just rewired the trailer so I am pretty sure it is not an issue with the trailer but I do not know. Could you give me an idea of where to start looking for the issue?

It is likely you have a short somewhere on that circuit which is causing the fuse to blow each time you try to use your lights, but you can start by taking a quick look at your connectors to ensure they aren't corroded or damaged in a way that may be causing the problem.

Apart from that you need to trace the wiring on your running light circuit and look for any crimped, bent or otherwise damaged wires and fix them as needed.
