Question:
What is the usual location to mount the 7-Pin plug in the bed of a 2006 Chevy 2500HD. Should it be between the wheelwell and tailgate or infront of wheelwell.

Mounting the 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness, # 50-97-410, in the bed of your 2006 Chevy 2500HD is up to the installer and user. If you like the connection point to be closer to the cab, installing between the wheel well and the front of the bed is easily accomplished with the 9 foot long harness length. Many users like this location because it is easier to access when the trailer is attached to the fifth-wheel hitch.
Most people probably install the connector between the rear of the wheel well and the truck tail gate, because they see them there more often, and because this is an accessible location when the truck tailgate is down.
You need to determine where to install the harness so the connector on your trailer will easily reach and the wiring will not be stretched when making tight turns, causing damage.
We install the harness in one of these two locations based on the customers preference. We have a video, see link, showing a similar harness being installed on a 2011 Silverado 2500 for you to review. This customer wanted the harness installed near the rear of the vehicle for his application.
