Question:

I am looking at some older model Thule cargo boxes to mount on a 2008 Subaru Tribeca with factory crossbars and I am running into some problems with fit. I saw one yesterday that used the U clamps, but the crossbars were too wide so they do not fit the owner does not know what model it is. I am assuming the only way to make this box work would be to change to Thule crossbars. I plan to look at a Thule 600 Touring later tonight, pictures below with mounting hardware. Do you know if this will fit or what I could purchase to make it fit? Thanks,

The brackets in your picture don't look like typical Thule mounting hardware so you must be looking at a much older Thule 600 Touring roof box. If you would like to stick with square crossbars then you need the 53" long Thule SquareBar Crossbars # TH712400 and the Evo Raised Rail # TH710401.

These bars have a width of 1-1/4" and a height of 7/8". You can use these dimensions to help you determine if the cargo carrier you are looking at will fit.

I couldn't help but notice that the mounting hardware in that picture looks pretty rusty. I would look elsewhere for a Thule box and possibly try to find one that is a little more updated as it will be really difficult to find replacement parts for an older Thule box when you need them. Let me know if you want to go this route and I can make some recommendations for you.
