Parts Needed to Install Trailer Brake Controller on 2016 Honda Pilot

If your 2016 Honda Pilot Touring has a factory 7-Way connector at the rear of the vehicle, then all you need to install a brake controller like the excellent Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 is the Plug-In Adapter # 3070-P. One end of the adapter will plug into the brake controller itself while the other end will connect to the built-in port beneath the Pilot's dash.

If your Pilot does not have a factory 7-Way connector, then you will need a couple additional parts depending on what is present at the rear of the vehicle.

If there is no trailer connector at all on the Pilot, then you will need to start with a 4-Way connector. For this I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118760. This custom harness will install by plugging into factory ports behind the driver side trim panel.

With the 4-Way installed (or if you already have one) you will then need to use the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7 to convert it to a fully functional 7-Way. This kit includes everything needed to accomplish this, along with the additional parts needed to install a brake controller. The above-mentioned Wiring Adapter # 3070-P will not be used, as the Pilot without the factory 7-Way does not come equipped with the brake controller port beneath the dash.
