Question:
Hi there! I have a 2014 Honda Civic 4-door sedan. Currently, we carry our bikes 2 with a unit that sits on the trunk of the car and has cords/tie-downs to hold it in place. It holds the bikes well enough, but I always get into a panic that its going to give-out and we will lose our bikes. Besides that, its a pain in the butt to get on and off the car, not to mention it isnt safe to leave the bikes if we decide to stop and eat somewhere. Theres no way to lock the bikes down. I would like to get a hitch of sorts, like my fiance has on his Exterra. His bike rack just slides right into the mounted hitch its square-shaped and then locks into position. Its very sturdy and isnt going anywhere. We can also lock the bikes to the bike rack by wrapping a bike lock around the metal frame of the bike rack. Is it possible to get this sort of hitch attachment on smaller cars such as the Honda so I can use a decent bike rack?? If so, wheres the best place to have this done? Ive only really seen bike racks like that on larger vehicles SUVs and trucks. Thank you!!

Most vehicles do have trailer hitches that are made to fit them. Typically, the only vehicles that you can't find a trailer hitch for are little sporty cars. We do have some trailer hitches that fit your 2014 Honda Civic. I recommend the Curt # C11391. It has a 1-1/4" receiver opening and 200-pound tongue weight capacity. You will also need a stabilizer strap part # 18050 for non-trailer loads (per the warranty).
For a bike rack we have a wide variety of options for you. My personal favorite is the Kuat Beta # B202-114 because it is lightweight (12.6 lbs), comes fully assembled, has an integrated anti-wobble knob, and has arms that are only 8" apart on center which helps eliminate the need of an adapter bar # UB01 for some bikes. This doesn't come with locks, but you can easily add them with parts # HL1 and # e98891.
Attached is a review video of the Beta on a 2012 Civic that you can check out.
