Question:
I have a 2018 Chevy 1500 double cab with a 66inch box. I have older Terry 27foot 5th wheel. It is 96inch wide and king pin sticks out 10inch from front edge of camper. My question is how much can I have the king pin in front of center of rear axle and not hit cab? I have DSP fifth wheel hitch.

I have attached the formula that is used to determine turning clearance with a 5th wheel trailer for you below. In order to give you the exact measurement you are looking for we would need to know the distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to the truck cab. However, I can already tell you that you will need to use either a rotating pin box or sliding 5th wheel hitch with at least 22-1/2" of travel in order to execute a 90 degree turn with your 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 because of the 5-1/2' bed.
(A + B) - C = Clearance
A = Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab
B = Length of pin box arm
C = Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half)
The best option we have for you is the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # DM8550041 with the Underbed Rail and Installation Kit part # DM8551008. This hitch has 22-1/2" of travel and will be the only 5th wheel hitch we have that offers this much. The install kit installs under the truck bed which makes for a clean looks while the hitch is not in use.
If you want to use the 5th wheel hitch you have now then the only option would be to replace the pin box on your trailer with a rotating version. In order to recommend a replacement we would need to know the model number of the pin box you have. If you can provide me with this information then I would be glad to make sure you get the correct replacement but if not I have attached an article that explains everything you need to know and how to choose a rotating pin box.
