What am I measuring to determine if this is the size driver tool I need?

You would need to measure the outer diameter of the end of the grease cap that fits into the hub. Driver tool # 290-993 is designed for caps with a 2.72 inch outer diameter. If there isn't one that matches the size you have a small block of wood works just as well.
