How to Reduce Bouncing on a 2017 Ram 1500 with Weight Distribution System

Updated 06/05/2018 | Published 06/01/2018

Question:

I purchased the husky 31422 equalizer hitch and installed it on my 2017 dodge ram 1500. I have everything set according the instructions and the vehicle and trailer are pretty level looking from the side view. My problem occurs when going over a bumpy stretch on the highway my truck bounces much more than is usual. Is there a setting I missed that would cause that to happen.

The bouncing feeling you are describing is not caused by improper installation of your weight distribution system. This is actually an adverse effect of the system. The ride on your 2017 Ram 1500 has become more stiff in the rear as a result of the weight distribution system working to distribute the tongue weight of the trailer. Because the ride has become stiffer, you are going to experience more bouncing.

The only way to help with the bouncy ride would be release tension on the spring bars which would put more sag back into the system or replace the rear coil springs on your truck with a version more designed for towing. For this, I recommend taking a look at the SuperCoils Custom Suspension Coils part # SSC-51. These coil springs are going to allow you to reduce the tension on your weight distribution system which will in turn allow for a smoother ride without creating more sag.

The stock rear coil springs on your vehicle are not ideal for frequent towing therefore, upgrading them is recommended for heavy usage.
