If the trailer lights worked fine with your 2012 Ram 3500, but aren't working with your Ford F-150, this does indicate some kind of wiring issue on the truck. The actual connector configuration on the truck, in terms of its pin locations and how they connect to the trailer's connector, likely isn't the issue, as this is pretty standardized.
Most likely, the issue is somewhere on the wiring itself or may be from a blown or missing fuse on the truck. I recommend first testing the Ford's connector with a circuit tester like # PTW2993. You can have a buddy sit in the cab and run through the lighting functions while you test the corresponding pin on the connector for power. If you don't receive the appropriate power at the connector, then you will want to inspect the wiring going into it for any bad connections or exposed areas. Also check the connector itself for any built-up debris or corrosion, simply cleaning out as needed.
I also recommend checking the owners manual for your Ford F-150 for the fuse locations related to trailer lights. Make sure the fuses are present and in good condition.
If you are still having issues, please let me know and we can continue to troubleshoot.
