Question:

Will longer shackle straps give me a bit more tire clearance. This is on a single axle trailer

Using longer shackle straps to gain additional clearance between the trailer and tires is not a good idea. Instead, you will want to use either taller leaf spring hangers or an axle flip kit. Taller leaf spring hangers will raise the trailer but will also require cutting the old hangers off and welding the new hangers on. I have linked our hanger selection for you if you would like to proceed with this route.

However, I recommend using an axle flip kit like the Dexter Over-Under Conversion Kit part # K71-385-00 for 3" diameter axles or part # K71-384-00 for 2-3/8" diameter axles. This will be the best way to raise the height of your trailer. It will lift the trailer the diameter of the axle added to the height of the leaf spring stack.

I have linked our selection of leaf spring hangers for you.
