Troubleshooting Trailer Taillights that Stop Working After A Few Minutes
Updated 04/16/2018 | Published 04/14/2018 >
Question:
Installed on 2006 grand cherokee. Have hitch plug brake light, and it only works for a while after I plug it in, then quits. Flashes with right turn ,not left. Have not tried with trailer yet as were getting hammered with snow all weekend. The hitch light works normal on all the other earlier jeeps here. Is it the way the converter is wired that prevents normal operations. Thanks,

What you are describing sounds like you are over drawing the wiring harness and instead of shorting out it's temporarily turning off. Typically this doesn't happen and instead the harness shorts itself out all together. You are most likely running too many lights on the trailer and if you reduced some of the draw you'd be good.
Converting some of the lights to LED will help out quite a bit as well. I attached a page that has all of the LED trailer taillights we offer as well.
